Product Overview

Spirit Journal: 5 Stars/Highest RecommendationSeriously gorgeous old copper color/auburn color; sediment-free and pure. Prickly, assertively spirity opening nose of sawdust and dried yellow fruits; further aeration brings out more of the spice aspect, leaving behind the oakiness and a measure of the dried fruits. Entry is fully integrated, resiny/woody and dry; midpalate is peppery, meaty, charred, maple-like and piny. Finishes in a flurry of high-toned spice and oak notes that are immensely charming. Harmonious and tightly-knit cognac splendor. The Beau family is one of the oldest Bouilleurs de Cru – artisanal cognac distillers - in Segonzac, the heart of Cognac’s first growth, known as the Grande Champagne region. Samuel Beau started distilling in 1895, bottling and selling part of his cognacs under his own name, which at that time was quite unusual. By 1914 following both Samuel’s death and the beginning of World War I, Samuel’s son, Paul, took over the family business. While he kept distilling, he decided to stop bottling the family’s eaux de vie. 1977 saw the rebirth of this activity: the Beau family, meticulously taking care of its 200 plus acres, all located in Grande Champagne, have since then kept bottling their cognacs under the Maison Paul Beau brand as homage to the ancestors. A majority of the vineyard is planted with the Ugni Blanc grape. On a tiny fraction Colombard is grown.
