From simple grilled steaks to Boeuf Bourguignon, there are myriad preparations for beef out there, which can make choosing just the right wine a challenge. The old idea that any red wine pairs well with beef simply doesn't work for every recipe. While it is true that most red wines will not clash with beef, certain red wines will pair better with certain cuts and preparations. Keeping it simple, an increase in fat content of the cut allows a wine that is bigger with fuller tannins.
Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux blends are the fall back pairings for beef dishes, but we recommend exploring and experimenting! You'll find that Syrahs from the Northern Rhône Valley, Brunellos from Tuscany, Chardonnays from California and Champagnes all pair marvelously with beef, depending on your recipe, of course!
