Product Description

Located in the village of Chichée, just southeast of the town of Chablis, Domaine Gilbert Picq et Ses Fils is a rising star among the small, family-owned Chablisienne producers. The estate has recently been handed down from father Gilbert Picq to his two sons, Didier and Pascal, and his daughter Marilyn.

The Picq’s produce a classic style of Chablis showcasing the characteristic minerality of the local terroir, the undulating hills of the Yonne Valley, resulting in chardonnays with refreshing acidity and complexity. The family is careful to keep their grape yields low and since 2006, has used 100% natural yeasts for fermentation, all practices that benefit their finished wines.

Their 2009 Chablis Vieilles Vignes is made from fifty year old vines, the oldest vines in their village holdings. This is a superb example of classic Chablis with plenty of zippy minerality and pure fruit character. The depth of acidity in the vieilles vignes wines give top vintages the potential to age beautifully for fifteen to twenty-five years.

Wine Advocate (WA) Review

WA 90
The 2009 Chablis Vieilles Vignes is another rich, powerful wine from Picq. The age of these old vines comes through loud and clear in the wine’s large-scaled personality, while the intensity of the fruit wraps around the palate nicely on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.

Burghound/Allen Meadows (BH) Review

BH 87-89
This is conspicuously riper with exotic yellow fruit aromas blending with sea breeze hints that merge into impressive concentrated and textured medium weight flavors that are already approachable, all wrapped in a palate soaking finish. This manages to avoid heaviness and while not refined, it is an unusually big villages.
