Capanna's 2003 Brunello di Montalcino is a rich, concentrated effort loaded with plenty of dark red fruit, smoke, tar, licorice and underbrush. It shows superb depth and purity in a style that reconciles the ripeness of the vintage while maintaining notable elegance and complexity. A further year or two of bottle age should help round out the tannins, although the wine is drinking beautifully today. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018.-Antonio Galloni

Plum and berry aromas follow through to a full body, with silky tannins and a medium finish. Best after 2009. 2,400 cases made. –JS
