Quick Overview

Powerful, round, with pronounced aromas of red fruit and spices.

Product Overview

This Chateauneuf-du-Pape is produced in a traditional way. Fermentation lasts 18 to 20 days. The wines are aged in oak barrels over a period of 12 to 18 months and are not filtered. Therefore, the wines are powerful, round, with pronounced aromas of red fruit and spices. The tannins present in young vintages can keep the wine from the best of ways. The optimal time for the drink is between 5 and 10 years, depending on the tastes and vintages. The Chateauneuf-du-Pape with meat, with sauces as well as the most delicious cheeses.

Wine Advocate (WA) Review

The brilliant 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape should not be overlooked (the 1998 and 2000 are drinking spectacularly well at present). A peppery, leathery, earthy effort with copious quantities of black cherries, this dense, full-bodied 2001 is surprisingly precocious by Usseglio’s standards. Nevertheless, 1-2 years of cellaring is warranted given the size and structure of this big, chewy, 75% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault, and 5% Syrah blend. It was aged in neutral wood foudres for 15-18 months.

Delightful. Elegant and classy, this racy Châteauneuf displays the mineral, stone, chalk, plum and smoke-leather complexity of the appellation, all in a clean, long and refined style. Drink now through 2012.
