Product Overview

Wine Spectator: "From one of the region's great traditional style producers comes this outstanding Barolo. The '97 Colonnello is a racy young wine, with lots of class. Very refined aromas of flowers, raspberries and plums, with hints of spice. Starts off slow on the palate, then kicks in with tight and pronouncedly silky tannins. It's Aldo Conterno's best Colonello ever. Best after 2005. 850 cases made." 94 Points

Wine Advocate (WA) Review

WA 91
The full-bodied, dark garnet-colored 1997 Barolo Colonnello displays licorice, spice, box, and kirsch liqueur characteristics as well as noticeable acidity. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of soy, herbs, and incense emerge. It is a tightly-framed, full-bodied, powerful yet close-to-the-vest offering. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018.-Robert Parker

Wine Spectactor (WS) Review

WS 95
Dark ruby. Intense raisin, roasted coffee bean and toasty oak. Full-bodied, with very chewy tannins and a long, powerful and rich finish. This is layered, young and chewy. Still needs time. This has really taken on weight. Getting better and better.--1997 Italian blind retrospective. Best after 2009. 850 cases made. –JS
